The Onshore Petroleum Association of South Africa (ONPASA) looks to bring together all vested parties involved in the onshore petroleum industry. We look to provide a platform for practical co-operation and act as the liaison with the Government on specific issues. We closely follow political and legislative developments that will shape the future of the oil and gas industry in South Africa.

The legal mandate and core business of the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment (DFFE) are to manage, protect and conserve South Africa’s environment and natural resources. The mandate is informed by section 24 of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, 1996 which affords everyone the right to (a) an environment that is not harmful to their health or well-being; and (b) to have the environment protected for the benefit of present and future generations, through reasonable legislative and other measures.

The South African Oil & Gas Alliance (SAOGA) is dedicated to promoting the upstream and midstream sectors of the oil and gas value chain, primarily in South Africa and regionally in Southern Africa. The organisation operates as a partnership between the public and private sectors, receiving public funding to carry out a range of industry development activities and working to promote the interests of members. It is overseen by an independent volunteer Board of Directors from industry and a number of other key stakeholders. 

The Offshore Petroleum Association of South Africa (known as OPASA) was officially launched in May 1999. The Department of Minerals and Energy, and others interested in the upstream industry of South Africa, joined with companies involved in the offshore exploration and production of hydrocarbons to announce this organisation.
